Located just east of the spring house, the fishing pond is a serene pondscape with some of the best wildlife viewing in the garden. Waterlilies, giant rush, lizard’s tail and numerous other marginal and aquatic plants fill the shallows, providing excellent habitat for birds, reptiles, amphibians and aquatic insects.
Teeming just below the surface are healthy populations of sunfish, bluegills and bass. After all, what would a fishing pond be without fish? Back on land, ornamental trees and shrubs accent the pond’s perimeter, while a dark curtain of pines furnishes the backdrop. Other highlights include creative tractor tire steps, a boardwalk and an ancient cypress stump.
