Mosaic Aqueduct

Flowing from the Spring House, the Mosaic Aqueduct is far more than a decorative water feature—it's an interactive work of art woven into the larger vision for this corner of the garden. Conceived by Moore Farms Botanical Garden's first Director of Horticulture, Jenks Farmer, the aqueduct, sculptural concrete basin, and Spring House were designed together as a single artistic experience centered around the life-giving power of water.

The colorful mosaic was handcrafted from broken pieces of pottery, china, and other treasured materials gathered from the Moore family estate. Rather than allowing these fragments to be forgotten, they were thoughtfully repurposed into a vibrant stream of color, demonstrating how history and memory can be transformed into something entirely new.

Visitors are invited to become part of the artwork by operating the hand pump beside the Spring House. As water fills the sculptural basin and flows through the mosaic-lined aqueduct, the installation comes to life just as its designer intended. Jenks Farmer envisioned the basin as a symbolic gateway to the "Divine Feminine"—celebrating water as a universal symbol of life, renewal, creativity, and our enduring connection to the natural world.
