Born in North Carolina, Romeo Machen drew much of his inspiration for the Silo Quilt Mural from the barn quilts painted on nearly every barn house in his home state. The sharp, geometric patterns as well as the bright colors were meant to remind one of their southern roots. As each barn quilt symbolized one household, so does this one represent Moore Farms. The color palette was chosen based on the Moore Farm’s Logo, and the hummingbird was chosen collectively by staff before the project began.
Though originally born in North Carolina, Romeo has spent most of his life in South Carolina, where he owns a tattoo studio in Sumter. The Silo Quilt Mural is his inaugural mural, but his artistry extends elsewhere: from tattooing, to painting, to woodworking and sculpting, art in any form has always been his passion. He hopes to complete many more murals in the future.
