Summer 2023 Internship Program

Moore Farms Botanical Garden is excited to announce our 2023 Summer Internship program. This 3-month opportunity is available to current and recently graduated students looking for experience in Horticulture and related fields. Interns will work directly with all levels of staff in the daily maintenance of the gardens and plant collections, and will learn both hardy and subtropical plants, refined gardening skills, and new and traditional design methods.

Horticulture interns should expect to gain experience with:

  • Landscape Installation and Maintenance
  • ntegrated Pest Management
  • Landscape Design
  • Propagation
  • Greenhouse and Nursery Management
  • Turf Management
  • Geographic Information Systems
  • Irrigation
  • Heavy Machinery Operation
  • Database Management
  • Land Management
  • Education & Outreach

Interns will be compensated at a rate of $17.00 an hour, and will be provided free on-site housing with high speed internet, cable television, and utilities included at no cost. Additional benefits include a work exchange program with Brookgreen Gardens and Charleston Parks Conservancy, and a multi-day trip to visit and tour other botanical gardens at a destination within the southeastern United States.

Desired qualifications:

The internship program is open to current or recently graduated students from a 2- or 4-year degree program that are legally able to work within the United States. Preferred majors include horticulture, plant sciences, botany, biology, landscape architecture, agriculture, and environmental sciences. Ability to lift 30 lbs., willingness to work in adverse weather conditions, and a valid driver’s license are required.

Work expectations: 5 days, 40 hrs. /wk. with occasional weekend work.
